PM Shehbaz Directs Review of Extension in Super Tax Exemption for Exporters
ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to review the matter of extending the exemption from super tax for exporters, stressing that export-led economic growth is the government’s top priority.
The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation of prominent industrialists and business leaders, where he welcomed the business community’s proposals for promoting export-oriented economic growth.
Shehbaz Sharif said the purpose of the meeting was to consult with the business community on ways to promote an export-led economy.
He said the government was taking effective measures to facilitate ease of doing business, while reducing energy costs remained among its key priorities. Despite difficult circumstances, he added, fundamental reforms had been introduced through consultation with stakeholders.
The prime minister further said the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) had recovered Rs800 billion in one year through enforcement measures.
He said the efforts of the government’s economic team had resulted in significant improvement in the country’s macroeconomic conditions. However, he noted that further efforts were required at the microeconomic level so that the benefits of economic recovery could reach the people.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that export-led economic growth remained the government’s foremost priority and directed a review of the proposal to extend the super tax exemption for exporters.
