“Only Maryam Nawaz Could Declare a Neighboring Country Terrorism-Free,” Says Hamid Mir
ISLAMABAD – Senior journalist and analyst Hamid Mir has strongly reacted to Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s recent statement, sarcastically remarking that only she could accomplish the “unique feat” of absolving a neighboring country of terrorism allegations.
In a post on social media platform X, Hamid Mir expressed deep concern over the ongoing political and administrative turmoil in the country. Taking a sharp dig at the Punjab Chief Minister, he said, “The achievement of declaring a neighboring country innocent of terrorism charges can only be accomplished by Punjab’s Chief Minister.”
He further warned that if a similar statement had been made by the Chief Minister of Sindh, Balochistan, or Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the state and relevant circles would have made their life miserable and leveled all sorts of allegations against them.

Background of Maryam Nawaz’s Statement
It may be recalled that Maryam Nawaz had stated earlier, “I am sorry to say that I feel less threatened by the neighboring country but more threatened by my neighboring provinces. Terrorism comes to Punjab from there. Threats come from the tri-border area. We have put ourselves at risk and made decisions for the protection of the people. We have spent billions on technology, and despite security challenges, we are gathering commendable achievements.”
Her remarks had already drawn sharp criticism from political leaders, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who questioned her understanding of terrorism, and Sindh Information Minister Saeed Ghani, who dismissed her statements as “absurd and shameful.” Hamid Mir’s latest reaction adds to the growing chorus of condemnation from media and political circles.
