USS Abraham Lincoln Arrives in Thailand After 250 Days at Sea
PATTAYA:The U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln has arrived in the coastal Thai city of Pattaya after spending 250 consecutive days at sea, giving nearly 5,000 personnel aboard the vessel an opportunity to rest ashore after an unusually long deployment.
According to reports, the aircraft carrier departed San Diego last November for what was initially planned as a six-month mission. However, following U.S. and Israeli military operations against Iran, the vessel was redirected toward the Gulf, extending the crew’s time at sea far beyond the original schedule.
The arrival of thousands of American personnel is expected to provide a boost to local businesses in Pattaya, whose economy has been affected by the war and weak tourism. Local business owners are hoping the large influx of U.S. sailors will increase spending and revive commercial activity.
However, U.S. and Thai authorities have imposed restrictions on certain locations and activities for the visiting personnel. American sailors have reportedly been advised to avoid designated entertainment areas, cannabis shops and certain water sports.
Pattaya authorities said the arrival of thousands of U.S. personnel could prove to be an important opportunity for local businesses, while special measures are being taken to ensure the visit is completed safely and without any unpleasant incidents.
