Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye Alliance Named ‘Makkah Defense Alliance’
ISTANBUL: The trilateral alliance between Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye has reportedly been formally named the “Makkah Defense Alliance,” with Pakistan being assigned the position of Secretary-General for its first three-year term.
According to media reports, a meeting of the alliance’s Strategic Political and Defense Committee was held in Istanbul, attended by the foreign and defense ministers and chiefs of defense forces of Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held important meetings with senior Saudi and Turkish officials.
The committee reached several key decisions, including establishing the alliance’s secretariat in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Pakistan was assigned the office of Secretary-General for the first three years.
According to the joint statement, the three countries agreed to further strengthen their defense capabilities through joint activities and promote closer cooperation in the defense industry.
Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Türkiye will also take steps toward the joint development and production of defense technologies. Further measures will be promoted to enhance coordination among the armed forces and institutionalize mutual cooperation.
The participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting efforts for the peaceful resolution of crises and agreed to continue joint efforts aimed at promoting lasting peace and stability in the region.
