Heavy Rain Submerges Low-Lying Areas in Islamabad and Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Heavy rainfall lashed Islamabad and Rawalpindi, inundating low-lying areas and raising concerns over possible flooding in the twin cities.

A total of 160 millimetres of rain was recorded across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Authorities warned that a major flood surge from Islamabad could enter Rawalpindi.

According to WASA officials, New Katarian received 112mm of rain, Shamsabad 75mm, Pirwadhai 50mm, Saidpur 60mm, Golra 106mm and PMD 65mm.

In Rawalpindi, Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir placed relevant departments on high alert following the intense rainfall.

WASA officials said the water level in Nullah Lai had crossed 24 feet at Katarian, while it reached 17 feet at the Gawalmandi Bridge.

Residents living around Nullah Lai have been instructed to move to safer locations as a precautionary measure.

Meanwhile, educational institutions in Rawalpindi have been closed due to the heavy rainfall. According to the deputy commissioner, all public and private educational institutions in the city will remain closed today.
