Everyone Must Play Their Part in Imran Khan’s Release Movement on September 27: Sohail Afridi
PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has announced plans for a long march and protests across major highways on September 27 to demand the release of former prime minister Imran Khan.
Addressing a consultation conference regarding the September 27 long march, Afridi openly acknowledged that the movement for Imran Khan’s release had so far failed to achieve its objective because, according to him, party workers and leaders had not been making sufficient efforts.
“We have been continuously struggling for Imran Khan’s release, but we are failing because our people are not struggling wholeheartedly. Everyone is putting the burden on others, compromising and stepping back,” Afridi said.
He stressed that this approach would not be acceptable on September 27 and that every party member would have to take responsibility for the movement.
Afridi welcomed Junaid Akbar’s decision to meet Ali Amin Gandapur, saying that success would only be possible through collective efforts. He directed party representatives to begin street-level mobilization in their respective areas immediately.
He also announced the formation of a special monitoring committee to track the activities and performance of party members and prepare reports on their participation in the movement.
Calling social media a major strength of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Afridi urged supporters to respond to what he described as negative propaganda surrounding the September 27 protest by coming out onto the streets.
According to Afridi’s plan, PTI workers in North Punjab will join Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in protests, while workers from Central and West Punjab will head toward Lahore.
He said areas of South Punjab bordering Khyber Pakhtunkhwa would coordinate with the province, while major highways in other parts of the region would be blocked as part of the protest.
Afridi further claimed that central highways across Sindh would be closed, while workers from Hyderabad and Karachi would jointly seek to shut down Karachi.
He added that leaders and workers in Balochistan would block national highways, including routes around Quetta, to record their protest.
