Killers, Robbers Roam Freely; Target Killings in Quetta, Saranan Question Government’s Writ: JUI
QUETTA: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI) leaders have expressed serious concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in Quetta, Saranan and other parts of Balochistan, saying the repeated target killings of innocent citizens have raised serious questions over the government’s writ.
JUI Balochistan Vice President and Quetta District Chief Maulana Abdul Rahman Rafiq, Secretary General Haji Ainullah Shams, Senior Vice President Maulana Khursheed Ahmed, Information Secretary Abdul Ghani Shahzad and other district leaders, in a joint statement, said killers and robbers were roaming freely in the streets while the lives and property of citizens were no longer secure.
They said the target killing of innocent citizens in Quetta, unarmed labourers in Saranan and civilians in other districts on a regular basis was a clear reflection of the poor performance of the government and administration.
The JUI leaders said the continued rise in killings and lawlessness demonstrated that the government’s writ had effectively weakened. They termed the failure of the government and administration to fulfill their basic responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens deeply regrettable and alarming.
They added that despite the increasing incidents of target killings, the lack of practical measures and silence from the authorities were further increasing public anxiety and unrest.
The leaders said the large number of security checkpoints and claims of strict security measures had failed to prevent perpetrators from freely targeting citizens. If killers could continue carrying out attacks despite such measures, they said, it raised serious questions about the government’s security policy and administrative performance.
The JUI leaders stressed that people needed practical peace, protection and the rule of law rather than merely checkpoints and official claims.
They strongly demanded that the government and administration immediately curb target killings and lawlessness in Quetta, Saranan and other parts of the province, bring the killers and their facilitators to justice without delay, and take concrete measures to ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
