Contempt Petition Against Government Filed by Dr Uzma Khan, Not PTI: Salman Akram Raja
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has clarified that the contempt of court petition against the government was filed by Dr Uzma Khan and not by the party.
Speaking on Geo News, Raja said Dr Uzma currently did not have sufficient evidence to establish contempt of court against Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi. However, he added that Naqvi could be made a party to the case if evidence against him was found.
He said the filing of the petition was a matter between Dr Uzma Khan and her lawyer, although he had discussed the issue with them. According to Raja, the lawyer had made a professional decision regarding whom to include as a party in the petition.
Responding to criticism over why the petition was not filed on Friday, Raja said the entire day had been spent reviewing statements and the record before deciding to proceed.
He said those who had stated that the Supreme Court’s order should not be followed had been included as parties to the petition. He added that the prime minister, as head of the government, carried overall responsibility for compliance with the court’s orders.
Raja said that if evidence emerged against Mohsin Naqvi in the future, he would also be included as a respondent in the case.
Meanwhile, a list of family members and lawyers seeking meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi has been submitted to Adiala Jail authorities.
PTI has sent a list of six lawyers and leaders seeking a meeting with Imran Khan. The list includes Barrister Gohar Khan, Salman Akram Raja, Khalid Yousaf Chaudhry, Niazullah Niazi, Naeem Punjutha and Fatahullah Barqi.
Imran Khan’s sisters are also expected to visit Adiala Jail for a meeting, while members of Bushra Bibi’s family are also expected to arrive at the prison.
