Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Absar Alam Clash Over Gen. Faiz Complaint; Agree to Settle with Meeting Minutes

LAHORE: Former Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and former PEMRA Chairman Absar Alam came face-to-face over a dispute regarding a complaint against ex-General Faiz Hameed. The two, however, agreed to resolve the matter by reviewing the official meeting minutes and to apologize if proven wrong. A video of their exchange, reportedly a few weeks old, is circulating online.

During a televised discussion, Absar Alam claimed: *“When you were Prime Minister, I briefed you as PEMRA Chairman that Gen. Faiz was creating hurdles for us, and courts were granting immediate stays. I asked you to intervene, but you told me to stop working altogether.”*

Abbasi strongly denied this, saying Alam’s recollection was incomplete. *“I never met Gen. Faiz, nor did you mention him. What you said was that there were 500 pending cases with stay orders. I advised you to withdraw them since they had lost their purpose,”* Abbasi asserted.

Alam insisted he had specifically named Gen. Faiz at the time, adding: *“It’s written in the meeting minutes. Let’s retrieve the record.”* Abbasi responded: *“Bring it out. If I am wrong, I will apologize to you. If you are wrong, you will apologize to me. And if necessary, we both will apologize to Pakistan together.”*
