Government Should Avoid Further “Foolish Mistakes,” Says Hamid Mir
ISLAMABAD: Senior journalist Hamid Mir has criticised the government over what he described as a series of “foolish mistakes,” urging it to avoid taking further steps that could worsen the political situation.
In a post on X, Mir shared his daily Jang newspaper column, in which he argued that the government’s continued political missteps could create further difficulties for the administration.
Mir said the opposition had chosen not to confront state institutions and instead pursue its political contest with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) through democratic and constitutional means. He warned that continued government mistakes could ultimately lead to political decline and further instability.

He also referred to the deployment of the army in Rawalpindi for three months under Article 245 of the Constitution, saying the decision highlighted the importance of the opposition’s approach of avoiding confrontation with state institutions.
Mir further warned that if PTI founder Imran Khan was not moved from prison to a hospital within the next 10 to 15 days, the difficulties facing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s government could increase.
The senior journalist advised the PML-N to confront the opposition politically and avoid involving state institutions in political matters.
He said that if the opposition continued to challenge the PML-N through democratic and constitutional means rather than confronting state institutions, the government should respond through political means instead of making further mistakes.
Mir concluded by urging the government to avoid what he termed “more foolish mistakes,” warning that such actions could ultimately contribute to the downfall of those responsible.
