CBS News Claims Field Marshal Asim Munir Played Key Role in Advancing US-Iran Negotiations

Washington: American broadcaster CBS News has claimed that Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir played a significant role in bringing ongoing US-Iran negotiations closer to a final stage, citing his trusted relations with both American and Iranian leadership.

According to the report, Field Marshal Asim Munir’s recent visit to Tehran contributed to important diplomatic progress amid efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East.

CBS News stated that despite the involvement of Gulf countries and Lebanon in the wider regional situation, Pakistan emerged as the only country capable of helping finalize the framework of a proposed agreement between the two sides.

The report further claimed that after Field Marshal Asim Munir returned from Tehran, the draft of the proposed agreement was sent to both Iranian and US leadership for review.

According to the broadcaster, close coordination between Pakistan’s political and military leadership was one of the most important factors behind the mediation process.

CBS News also claimed that former US President Donald Trump had previously referred to Field Marshal Asim Munir as “my favorite field marshal.”

The report added that Pakistan’s government and military leadership played an effective role in reducing tensions during negotiations held in Islamabad.

CBS News also noted that Pakistan has historically played an important diplomatic role in facilitating international relations, particularly in efforts that contributed to the restoration of ties between the United States and China.
