Pakistan Likely to Get Extended Eid-ul-Adha Holidays in 2026

ISLAMABAD: Preliminary details regarding possible holidays for Eid al-Adha in Pakistan have emerged, with astronomical estimates suggesting that Eid-ul-Adha is likely to be observed on May 27, 2026, subject to official confirmation by the government and the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
According to initial projections, if Eid-ul-Adha falls on Wednesday, May 27, public holidays may begin from Tuesday, May 26, and continue until Friday, May 29, following the government’s usual holiday schedule.
With Saturday and Sunday included, employees in both public and private sectors could potentially enjoy six consecutive holidays.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission has released astronomical calculations regarding the moon sighting for Zilhajj 1447 Hijri.
According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Zilhajj is expected to be born on May 17, 2026, at 1:01am Pakistan time. At sunset on the same day, the moon’s age is expected to be approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes, which is considered favorable for moon sighting.
The agency further stated that coastal areas are expected to experience a gap of nearly 60 minutes between sunset and moonset, increasing the chances of visible moon sighting if weather conditions remain clear.
Experts noted that while astronomical calculations help estimate the likely date of Eid, the final announcement regarding Eid-ul-Adha in Pakistan will be made by the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee in accordance with moon sighting testimonies and Islamic principles.
