Flour Prices Rise Again as 20kg Bag Becomes Up to Rs100 More Expensive
ISLAMABAD: Flour prices have increased once again across several cities, with the price of a 20-kilogram bag rising by Rs20 to Rs100 over the past week, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The data showed that Islamabad recorded the highest average price, with a 20kg bag reaching Rs3,133.33, while in Rawalpindi it was being sold for around Rs3,093.33.
Khuzdar recorded the largest weekly increase, where the price of a 20kg flour bag rose by Rs100. Prices increased by Rs60 in Bahawalpur, Rs40 in Hyderabad, and Rs20 each in Larkana and Quetta.
According to official figures, a 20kg bag of flour was selling for around Rs3,100 in Peshawar, Rs3,000 in Karachi and Rs2,900 in Bannu.
In Quetta, the price stood at approximately Rs2,700, while in Lahore it was around Rs2,300. Gujranwala, Sialkot, Sargodha, Multan and Bahawalpur recorded prices of approximately Rs2,800 per 20kg bag.
Meanwhile, flour was selling for around Rs2,580 in Sukkur and Rs2,620 in Larkana.
The continued increase in flour prices is putting additional pressure on household budgets, particularly affecting low- and middle-income families for whom flour is a basic necessity.
The latest increase has also heightened public concerns over rising food prices. Consumers are now looking toward possible price stabilisation and government measures to control the rising cost of essential commodities.
The data also highlighted significant differences in flour prices among various cities, requiring consumers to purchase according to prevailing official or market rates in their respective areas.
