Modern Surveillance System to Be Expanded to More Areas of Balochistan: CM Sarfraz Bugti
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has said the province’s modern surveillance system will be expanded to more areas to enhance public safety, prevent crime and improve the security of citizens.
Chairing a high-level meeting of the Balochistan Safe City Authority, the chief minister reviewed the authority’s performance, surveillance mechanisms, crime prevention measures and plans to enhance its operational capacity.
Inspector General of Police Balochistan Muhammad Tahir Khan briefed the meeting on the authority’s performance and various initiatives. The meeting was informed that the Safe City surveillance system had helped identify 138 stolen vehicles from across the country.
The system also detected nine suspicious activities in a timely manner, helping authorities prevent major terrorist attacks, the meeting was told.
Officials further informed the meeting that the Balochistan Safe City Authority had provided police with 631 key pieces of evidence related to different crime scenes, assisting investigations and helping authorities trace suspects.
The meeting was also informed that the 15 Helpline Emergency Response Service had been assigned to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD), which would help improve emergency response and coordination among relevant institutions.
Sarfraz Bugti appreciated the performance of the Safe City Authority and directed officials to accelerate the use of modern technology for crime prevention and bring the surveillance system in line with modern requirements.
He said strengthening and modernizing the Safe City system was among the government’s priorities. Timely detection of crimes and suspicious activities could improve police response and help ensure the protection of citizens’ lives and property, he added.
The chief minister said the modern surveillance system would be expanded to more parts of Balochistan. He added that the provincial government would benefit from the experience and expertise of the Punjab Safe City Authority to enhance the capacity of its own system.
Bugti said a letter would be sent to the Chief Minister of Punjab seeking technical assistance, expertise and cooperation from the Punjab Safe City Authority to improve the capabilities of the Balochistan authority.
He said the Balochistan government was further strengthening modern technology and effective response mechanisms for maintaining law and order in the province.
The chief minister directed the relevant authorities to accelerate practical measures for enhancing the Safe City Authority’s capacity, making effective use of modern technology and further improving the surveillance system.
He stressed that strengthening technology-based security and surveillance systems in Balochistan was an urgent need and assured that the government would utilize all necessary resources to achieve this objective.
