US National Debt Surpasses $40 Trillion for the First Time

The United States’ national debt has surpassed $40 trillion for the first time, increasing concerns over mounting fiscal pressure and the possibility of a future financial crisis.
According to the US Treasury Department, America’s total national debt has nearly doubled since 2017.
Official figures show that US debt increased by approximately $11.6 trillion during Donald Trump’s two presidential terms, while the national debt rose by around $8.4 trillion during former President Joe Biden’s four-year term.
According to the Treasury Department, US national debt stood at approximately $19.95 trillion in 2019, near the beginning of Trump’s first term.
The report noted that rising debt has been accompanied by higher interest payments and increased spending on social welfare programs. At the same time, tax cuts have placed additional pressure on government revenues.
Economists say the continued increase in the national debt has raised fresh questions about the long-term fiscal stability of the US economy and the government’s ability to manage its growing financial obligations.
