Erdogan Says Egypt Could Join ‘Mecca Agreement

ANKARA:Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has confirmed that Egypt could potentially join the “Mecca Agreement” in the future, saying the agreement remains open to additional participants.
Speaking to Arab media, Erdogan said Egypt could become a member of the agreement at a later stage. He explained that participating countries would be required to respond collectively if any member came under external attack.
Erdogan also said that the European Union was not Turkey’s priority, adding that “Europe is facing failure.”
The Turkish president further stressed the importance of reopening the **Strait of Hormuz**, saying that keeping the strategic waterway closed for an extended period would not serve anyone’s interests.
