PB-09 Kohlu Assembly Seat Declared Vacant as PML-N’s Nawab Jangiz Khan Marri De-notified

QUETTA/ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared the Balochistan Provincial Assembly seat from PB-09 Kohlu vacant after de-notifying Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker Nawab Jangiz Khan Marri.
According to an ECP notification issued on August 10, 2026, the commission withdrew its earlier notification dated July 4, 2024, which had declared Nawab Jangiz Khan Marri the successful candidate from PB-09 Kohlu.
The action was taken in compliance with a decision issued by Election Tribunal-III, Balochistan, Quetta, on July 29, 2026, in Election Petition No. 52/2024.
The petition, titled Nasibullah Khan vs Jangiz Khan Marri and others, challenged the election results of PB-09 Kohlu and Marri’s victory.
The ECP notification stated that, in light of the tribunal’s order, its previous notification declaring Jangiz Khan Marri the successful candidate had been set aside. As a result, Marri has formally been de-notified from the provincial assembly seat.
The election dispute was reportedly challenged by Pakistan Peoples Party’s Mir Nasibullah Marri, who raised objections regarding the election results and the notification declaring Jangiz Khan Marri successful.
The matter remained before Election Tribunal-III, Balochistan, Quetta, which announced its decision on July 29. The ECP subsequently issued the formal notification on August 10 to implement the tribunal’s ruling.
With the de-notification of Jangiz Khan Marri, the PB-09 Kohlu seat has now become vacant, creating a new political situation in the constituency.
The ECP has stated that further action regarding the vacant seat will be taken in accordance with the relevant constitutional and legal procedures.
The development is expected to generate renewed political activity in Kohlu, with political parties and potential candidates likely to begin preparations for the next phase concerning the constituency.
The ECP notification makes clear that the de-notification was carried out directly in compliance with the July 29 order of Election Tribunal-III, Balochistan, Quetta, and that the July 4, 2024 notification declaring Jangiz Khan Marri the successful candidate has been set aside.
