Balochistan Assembly Speaker Orders Immediate Action and Arrests in Asma Jatak Case

Quetta: Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly, Abdul Khaliq Achakzai, has directed the Inspector General (IG) of Police Balochistan to take immediate and effective legal action in the Asma Jatak case and ensure the arrest of all nominated suspects.
According to a notification issued by the Balochistan Assembly Secretariat, the case was discussed during the Assembly session on August 5 under a matter of public importance. Lawmakers expressed serious concern over the incident and criticized the lack of progress despite the registration of criminal cases.
Members of the Assembly stated that Asma Jatak was allegedly abducted by influential individuals in 2024 and was later recovered following public pressure and a widespread social media campaign. They also alleged that her supporters were subjected to violence and that some of her close relatives were killed. The failure to arrest the accused despite registered cases raised serious questions about the performance of the police and local administration.
The Speaker instructed the IG Police to ensure the immediate arrest of all accused persons, conduct a transparent and impartial investigation, and provide comprehensive security to Asma Jatak and her family.
The notification further directs the IG Police Balochistan to submit a comprehensive report to the Provincial Assembly by August 10, 2026, detailing the progress of the investigation, the status of arrests, and other developments in the case.
The Assembly emphasized that prompt action is essential to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.
