Trump Says NATO Was Disappointing, U.S. Did Not Need Allies in Iran Conflict

Ankara: U.S. President Donald Trump said NATO had been “very disappointing” and claimed the United States did not need assistance from its allies during the conflict with Iran.
Speaking to the media alongside Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara, Trump said the United States and Türkiye share strong bilateral relations and would continue discussions to expand trade cooperation.
Trump stated that the United States had invested billions of dollars in NATO to ensure Europe’s security. He also reiterated that Iran would not be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons.
President Erdoğan said the issue of Türkiye’s participation in the F-35 fighter jet program was not new, noting that Ankara had previously discussed the matter with Washington. He added that Türkiye had been promised the delivery of five F-35 aircraft.
Earlier, President Trump arrived in Ankara to attend the NATO summit, where he was welcomed by President Erdoğan.
