PTI Leader Salman Akram Raja Says Pakistan’s Democratic Process Has Been Repeatedly Undermined

Islamabad:Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Salman Akram Raja has claimed that Pakistan’s democratic process has repeatedly been undermined and alleged that political leaders who challenge the system often face obstacles.
Speaking during a podcast on a television program, Raja said that while the people of Pakistan support democracy, democratic institutions and political representation have historically been weakened through what he described as a systematic process.
Referring to the country’s political history, he cited the treatment of the Pakistan Peoples Party after 1977 and argued that various political parties have faced pressure over the years. He also claimed that independent-minded politicians are often prevented from advancing in politics.
Raja further alleged that despite receiving significant public support in the elections, he was not allowed to win his seat because, in his view, he would not conform to the existing political system.

Commenting on former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Raja said he believes Sharif is not serving as prime minister today because elements within the system remain wary of his political influence whenever he attempts to assert himself.
He added that he entered politics at the request of Imran Khan and said he would continue his political career as long as possible, otherwise returning to his legal profession.
