New Era Begins for PIA as New Management Takes Charge Following Privatization

Islamabad: A new chapter has begun for Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) after the successful completion of its privatization process, with ownership of the national carrier officially transferred to its new owners.

PIA Equity Limited, a subsidiary of the Arif Habib Consortium, formally assumed control of the airline on June 29, 2026, marking the beginning of a new phase in the carrier’s operations.

The consortium acquired PIA for Rs180 billion, of which Rs55 billion will be paid to the Government of Pakistan, while Rs125 billion will be invested directly into the airline.

According to the new management, the investment will be used to modernize the airline’s fleet, implement operational reforms, launch new domestic and international routes, accelerate digital transformation, and improve the quality of services and customer experience.

In a statement, the Chairman of PIA Equity Limited said the new administration fully understands that public confidence cannot be earned merely through a change of ownership.

“We recognize that the trust of the nation will be built through every journey, every smile, and years of consistent performance,” the chairman said.

He added that while ownership of the airline has changed, the commitment to serving Pakistan remains stronger than ever.

“Our goal is to honor PIA’s proud legacy while transforming it into a modern, world-class airline that meets international standards,” he said.

The new management has pledged to focus on long-term growth, improved efficiency, enhanced passenger services, and restoring PIA’s position as a competitive carrier in the global aviation industry.
