Trump Says New Iran Deal Is a ‘Wall Against Nuclear Capability

PARIS:US President Donald Trump has defended the newly negotiated agreement with Iran, describing it as a strong barrier against Tehran’s potential nuclear ambitions.
Speaking during a meeting with the President of the United Arab Emirates in France, Trump said it would be a good idea to send the Iran agreement to Congress for review and consideration.
“The new agreement is a wall against Iran’s nuclear capability,” Trump said, adding that the deal could be submitted to Congress for further scrutiny.
Drawing a comparison with the nuclear agreement negotiated during the administration of former President Barack Obama, Trump argued that the earlier accord posed risks to regional security.
He claimed that the Obama-era deal was dangerous for the Middle East and could have paved the way for Iran to eventually acquire nuclear weapons.
Trump also stated that Iran was eager to resolve outstanding issues and return to normal economic activity. He said the details of the agreement would be shared publicly within the next few days and indicated that he personally intended to discuss key provisions with the media.
According to Trump, the agreement provides for the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz from Friday and includes a provision under which no tolls or transit taxes will be imposed on vessels using the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, carrying a significant share of global oil and energy shipments. Any changes affecting access to the strait are closely monitored by international markets and governments.
Further details of the agreement are expected to emerge as both sides move toward formal implementation.
