Mbappé Surpasses Messi and Pelé, Climbs World Cup Scoring Charts

NEW JERSEY:France star forward Kylian Mbappé reached another historic milestone after scoring twice in France’s 3-1 victory over Senegal at the FIFA World Cup 2026.
Mbappé’s brace not only helped France secure an important opening win but also saw him move ahead of two football legends, Lionel Messi and Pelé, on the World Cup scoring list.
Playing in his third World Cup tournament, Mbappé has now scored 14 goals in World Cup matches. Messi finished his World Cup career with 13 goals in 26 appearances, while Pelé scored 12 goals in 14 World Cup matches.
The achievement places the French superstar among the greatest scorers in World Cup history. With 14 goals, Mbappé is now tied with German legend Gerd Müller and has moved into third place on the tournament’s all-time scoring charts.
Only two players remain ahead of him: Miroslav Klose, who holds the World Cup record with 16 goals, and Brazilian great Ronaldo Nazário, who scored 15 goals during his World Cup career.

Mbappé also achieved another major milestone by becoming France’s all-time leading international goal scorer. His two goals against Senegal took his tally to 58 international goals, surpassing the previous French record of 57 held by Olivier Giroud.
The match against Senegal was also a landmark occasion for Mbappé, as it marked his 99th appearance for the French national team. With his remarkable scoring record and age still on his side, the French captain is now closing in on the World Cup’s all-time scoring record while continuing to rewrite France’s football history.
