Digital Banking Usage in Pakistan Surges to 13.3 Crore Users, Finance Minister Reveals

Islamabad: Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb has revealed a significant rise in digital banking adoption in Pakistan, stating that the number of beneficiaries of digital banking services has reached 133 million.

Addressing the budget session for the fiscal year 2026-27 at the Parliament House, the finance minister said that notable progress has been made under the Digital Pakistan and financial inclusion agenda.

He said the expansion of banking users has strengthened the foundation for digital transactions and the promotion of a cashless economy in the country.

Aurangzeb further stated that the number of traders connected to digital payment systems has increased significantly, rising to 1.677 million compared to 500,000 last year.

He added that users of digital banking services have grown from 95 million to 133 million, reflecting rapid adoption of financial technology across the country.

The minister also noted that annual digital transactions have increased from 6.9 billion to 10.1 billion.

He said that 92 percent of remittances received in the country are now being processed through bank accounts, while 75 percent of government-to-person (G2P) payments are being executed through digital systems.

The government believes this growth reflects strong momentum toward a cashless and digitally integrated economy, improving transparency and financial efficiency.
