Rain Disrupts Life in Karachi: Power Outages and Two Deaths Reported

Karachi:Life in the city of Karachi was once again disrupted on Saturday night as heavy rain led to widespread power outages and two tragic deaths in separate incidents.

According to sources, power supply was suspended in several areas including Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Rizvia, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Sharifabad, Azizabad, Dastagir, Hussainabad, Golimar, Jehangirabad, and Usmania Society. Residents reported that electricity has been out since 11 PM and had not been restored by the time of reporting.

Frustrated citizens complained that despite repeated calls to K-Electric’s helpline, no satisfactory response was provided. Locals criticized the power utility company, stating that its infrastructure is outdated and fragile, with multiple feeders tripping even during light rain. Issues such as overbilling and prolonged load-shedding continue to trouble residents.

Meanwhile, two unfortunate incidents claimed lives during the rain. In Lyari, a man lost his life after a wall collapsed near the Bakra Peeri Bridge. Rescue teams recovered the body and shifted it to the hospital.

The second incident occurred near Mumtaz Mosque in Labour Square, SITE Area, where a 22-year-old man named Kamran, son of Asghar, was electrocuted while working in a company. His body was also transported to the hospital by rescue officials.

These incidents once again highlight the urgent need for better infrastructure, efficient emergency response, and accountability from city service providers.
