Pakistan to Present Rs17.5 Trillion Federal Budget for FY2025-26 Today

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government is set to present the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 in the National Assembly today. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will unveil a budget estimated at Rs17.5 trillion.
According to budget proposals, the government has set a tax revenue target of Rs15.267 trillion. A significant allocation of Rs7.824 trillion has been earmarked for debt servicing, while the defense budget is expected to stand at Rs3 trillion.
The budget is also likely to include an increase in salaries and pensions for government employees. In addition, the government plans to collect Rs1.727 trillion through the petroleum levy.
For the upcoming fiscal year, exports are projected at $32.8 billion, while imports are targeted at $70 billion. No new development projects are expected to be launched, with the government focusing instead on the completion of ongoing projects.
The tax exemption currently available to the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) may also be withdrawn under the new budget proposals.
The National Assembly session for the budget presentation is scheduled to begin at 3:00 PM. Earlier in the day, a federal cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister will be held to approve the budget. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is expected to brief the cabinet before formally presenting the budget in Parliament.
