PPP Leads Gilgit-Baltistan Polls as Unofficial Results Continue to Emerge

Unofficial and provisional results from the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly elections continued to emerge following the completion of polling across the region.

Voters turned out in large numbers on election day, with long queues observed at polling stations from early morning. Voting continued uninterrupted until 5:00 p.m.

According to complete unofficial results from 18 of the 24 constituencies, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has secured nine seats, independent candidates have won five seats, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has claimed three seats, and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has won one seat.

The PPP won constituencies GBA-1, GBA-4, GBA-5, GBA-7, GBA-9, GBA-10, GBA-11, GBA-12, and GBA-19. PML-N secured victories in GBA-18, GBA-20, and GBA-22, while MWM won GBA-8. Independent candidates emerged victorious in GBA-3, GBA-6, GBA-21, GBA-23, and GBA-24.

In GBA-1 Gilgit-I, PPP candidate Amjad Hussain won with 10,594 votes, defeating PML-N’s Muhammad Shafiquddin, who secured 6,312 votes. In GBA-3 Gilgit-III, independent candidate Syed Sohail Abbas won with 7,877 votes, while PPP’s Aftab Haider Advocate finished second with 7,361 votes.

PPP also recorded victories in Nagar-I and Nagar-II, where Muhammad Ali Akhtar and Zulfiqar Ali Murad emerged successful. In Hunza, independent candidate Nake Nam Karim won the seat with 6,360 votes.

In Skardu, PPP candidates Syed Tauqeer Mehdi, Fida Muhammad Nashad, and Nasir Ali Khan won constituencies GBA-7, GBA-9, and GBA-10, respectively. However, MWM candidate Muhammad Kazim secured victory in GBA-8 Skardu-II.

PPP continued its strong performance in Kharmang, Shigar, and Ghizer-I, where Iqbal Hassan, Imran Nadeem, and Syed Jalal Shah were declared winners.

PML-N candidates Kifayat-ur-Rehman, Abdul Jahan, and Muhammad Ibrahim Sanai won GBA-18, GBA-20, and GBA-22, respectively.

Meanwhile, independent candidates Aman Ali, Anwar Ali, and Asad Shafiq claimed victories in GBA-21, GBA-23, and GBA-24.

Results from several constituencies, including GBA-2, GBA-13, GBA-14, GBA-15, GBA-16, and GBA-17, remain incomplete. Preliminary counts show close contests in some seats, with PPP, PML-N, independent candidates, and the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) all remaining in contention.

The final composition of the 24-member Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly will become clearer once the remaining results are officially compiled and announced.
