Heatwave Forecast Across Pakistan Next Week, Karachi Temperature May Reach 43°C

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a heatwave across most parts of the country from June 7 to June 12, with temperatures in Karachi expected to rise up to 43°C.

According to the Met Office, a high-pressure system is likely to develop in the upper atmosphere on June 8, which may persist until June 11, triggering widespread hot and dry conditions across the country.

The department stated that during June 8 to 11, several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, Karak, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan are expected to experience temperatures 4°C to 6°C above normal, reaching between 41°C and 46°C.

In northern regions including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan, temperatures are expected to remain between 37°C and 40°C from June 8 to 10.

In Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and adjoining areas such as Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, and Muzaffarabad, temperatures are likely to remain 5°C to 7°C above normal, reaching 41°C to 44°C during June 8 to 10.

In Punjab, districts including Lahore, Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Sahiwal, Sargodha, and others are expected to experience extreme heat from June 8 to 11, with temperatures ranging between 44°C and 48°C.

The Met Office further warned that in Sindh and parts of southern Punjab, including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Nawabshah, and surrounding areas, temperatures may soar to 48°C to 51°C between June 7 and June 12.

For Karachi, the forecast predicts hot and humid conditions from June 8 to 12, with temperatures expected to remain between 40°C and 43°C.

Dust storms and strong winds are also likely at isolated places in southern Punjab and Sindh during the heatwave period.

Authorities have advised citizens, especially children, women, and the elderly, to take precautionary measures to avoid heat-related illnesses.
