West Karachi Administration Holds High-Level Meeting on Muharram Arrangements

KARACHI: A high-level meeting was held at the Deputy Commissioner West office to review arrangements for the upcoming month of Muharram-ul-Haram and ensure provision of all essential facilities for mourners and processions.
The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner West Ali Zulfiqar Memon, with Additional Deputy Commissioners also in attendance. Town Chairman Manghopir Haji Nawaz Brohi, Municipal Commissioner Manghopir Agha Khaliq, officials from municipal bodies, religious scholars, organizers of imambargahs, permit holders, and representatives of law enforcement agencies including Pakistan Rangers, Sindh Police, Traffic Police, Karachi Electric, and other departments also participated.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held regarding cleanliness, uninterrupted water supply, electricity provision, road maintenance, lighting arrangements, and security measures along procession routes and majalis venues.
Deputy Commissioner Ali Zulfiqar Memon directed all concerned departments to ensure that no negligence would be tolerated during Muharram. He emphasized that all procession routes must be cleaned in advance and sewerage issues resolved to avoid any inconvenience to mourners.
He instructed the Sindh Solid Waste Management Board to deploy special teams for continuous waste collection around imambargahs and procession routes to ensure uninterrupted cleanliness operations throughout the month.
The Deputy Commissioner said that Muharram holds great religious significance and that all public service institutions must ensure maximum facilitation for citizens so that they can perform their religious duties without difficulty.
He further directed that uninterrupted water supply must be ensured at all mosques, imambargahs, and majalis venues in District West. He also urged K-Electric to maintain electricity supply during procession timings to avoid any untoward incidents.
Traffic police were instructed to implement traffic regulations effectively and launch awareness campaigns regarding alternative routes to minimize congestion during processions.
Ali Zulfiqar Memon added that special lighting arrangements would be made along procession routes, while security agencies would ensure full protection for all religious gatherings and processions.
He assured organizers of mosques and imambargahs that assistant commissioners and elected representatives would extend full cooperation, and the district administration would remain available to resolve any issues in coordination with relevant departments.
