Karachi Water Crisis Persists as Supply Disruptions Leave Residents Struggling

KARACHI:** The severe water shortage that has plagued Karachi for months continues unabated, causing significant hardship for residents across the city.

The latest disruption occurred on Sunday when a forced shutdown by K-Electric at the Dhabeji Pumping Station led to the suspension of water supply to Karachi. On Monday, the situation worsened after a fault in K-Electric’s main power cable caused a power outage at the Hub Pumping Station, further reducing water availability.

As a result, many residents have been forced to purchase expensive water from private tanker operators, adding to their financial burden amid the ongoing crisis.

A spokesperson for the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) said that the supply of approximately 85 million gallons of water per day from the Hub source to Karachi has been affected due to the power-related issues.

Meanwhile, a K-Electric spokesperson stated that electricity supply to the Hub Pumping Station is continuing through alternative sources while efforts are underway to address the fault and maintain operations.

The prolonged water crisis has intensified public concerns, with citizens calling for urgent measures to ensure a stable and uninterrupted water supply to Pakistan’s largest city.
