Vegetable and Spice Prices Surge in Lahore Ahead of Eid-ul-Adha

ISLAMABAD (Qudrat Roznama): Prices of vegetables and spices in Lahore have witnessed a sharp increase just days before Eid al-Adha, causing serious concern among citizens already struggling with inflation.

According to reports from various markets across the city, daily-use items including lemons, ginger, garlic, tomatoes, onions, and green chilies are being sold at prices significantly higher than official government rates. Residents complained that shopkeepers are charging arbitrary prices while price control measures appear ineffective.

Market sources said the demand for vegetables and spices traditionally rises before Eid-ul-Adha, and some traders are taking advantage of the situation by creating artificial inflation. In several areas, official price lists are displayed but are reportedly not being followed.

Households, particularly middle- and low-income families, say the soaring prices have made it increasingly difficult to manage kitchen expenses and prepare for Eid celebrations. Some consumers reported reducing their purchases or opting for lower-quality products due to rising costs.

Citizens have urged the district administration to take immediate action against profiteers and ensure implementation of official prices so that the public can get relief during the festive season.
