82 Killed in Coal Mine Explosion in China; Rescue Operations Underway

A major coal mine explosion in China has claimed the lives of at least 82 people, with several others injured or still missing, according to international media reports.

The incident took place at the Liushin Yu coal mine in Chengzi, where a sudden buildup of gas is believed to have triggered a powerful explosion in the underground facility.

Initial reports suggested that 8 people had died, but Chinese authorities later confirmed that the death toll has risen sharply to 82, with search and rescue operations still continuing for those unaccounted for.

Emergency teams have been deployed to the site as efforts continue to locate survivors and recover bodies from the affected sections of the mine.

Officials have launched an investigation into the incident and have pledged strict action against those found responsible for safety lapses or violations of mining regulations.
