Karachi Unlikely to Face Heatwave During Eidul Adha, Says Met Department

KARACHI: Pakistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast a moderate to severe heatwave across most parts of Sindh during Eidul Adha, with temperatures expected to rise by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius between May 25 and May 31.
According to the weather department, a high-pressure system is likely to develop in the upper atmosphere on May 25 and may intensify further by May 26, triggering extremely hot weather conditions in several districts of the province.
The Met Office said temperatures in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qamber Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur and Naushahro Feroze could soar between 47°C and 50°C.
Meanwhile, districts in rural Sindh including Tharparkar, Badin, Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Jamshoro and Sanghar may record temperatures ranging from 44°C to 47°C.
However, the department clarified that Karachi is unlikely to experience a formal heatwave. The city is expected to remain hot and humid, with maximum temperatures around 37°C and minimum temperatures near 27°C.
Humidity levels are forecast to remain high, ranging between 70% and 80% during the morning and 55% to 65% in the evening, which could make the weather feel significantly hotter than the actual temperature.
The Meteorological Department has advised children, women and elderly citizens to take precautionary measures during the hot spell. People have been urged to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 10am and 4pm, and to increase water intake to stay hydrated.
