Another Blow to Inflation-Hit Public as Bread Prices Increase in Lahore

LAHORE: Following a sharp increase in flour prices, naanbais in Lahore have raised the price of roti on their own, adding further pressure on inflation-stricken citizens.
According to reports, the price of a 20-kilogram flour bag has increased by Rs400 in the market, prompting bakers across the provincial capital to raise bread prices.
Market sources said that roti previously sold for Rs14 in various parts of the city is now being sold for up to Rs20.
Naanbais stated that due to rising costs of LPG, flour, and other operational expenses, it has become impossible to sell roti at the government-fixed rate.
Aftab Aslam Gul, a leader of the Bakers Association, said bakers were compelled to sell roti at Rs20 because selling it for Rs14 no longer covers their expenses.
He added that the Roti Association had repeatedly submitted requests to the authorities regarding revision of official bread prices, but no action had been taken.
Aftab Aslam Gul demanded that the government officially revise the roti price policy to establish a clear pricing mechanism for both bakers and consumers.
