Pakistan strongly condemns attacks on Saudi Arabia and UAE’s Barakah nuclear plant

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the reported drone attacks on Saudi Arabia and the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the United Arab Emirates on May 17, 2026, expressing full solidarity with the governments and people of both countries.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson, Pakistan firmly denounced the attack on the Barakah nuclear facility, calling it a serious violation of international law, including international humanitarian law, the UN Charter, and fundamental principles of nuclear safety and security.

The statement emphasized that deliberately targeting nuclear installations is strictly prohibited under international norms and resolutions of global regulatory bodies, including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It warned that such actions could have catastrophic consequences for human lives, the environment, and regional and global peace and security.

Pakistan urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and to fulfill their obligations under international law, calling for de-escalation and avoidance of further escalation in tensions. It reiterated that dialogue and diplomacy, in line with the principles of the United Nations Charter, remain the only viable path toward lasting peace and stability in the region.

Separately, Pakistan also strongly condemned the drone attacks on Saudi Arabia, describing them as a violation of the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and a threat to regional peace.

The Foreign Office spokesperson reaffirmed that the government and people of Pakistan stand in complete solidarity with Saudi Arabia in this difficult time and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Kingdom’s security, peace, and prosperity.
