Sharp Rise in Dog Bite and Rabies Cases Alarms Sindh Health Authorities

Karachi: Dog bite incidents and rabies cases have increased to an alarming level across Sindh, raising serious concerns for public health authorities.

According to a report by Geo News, **more than 40,000 rabies-related cases** have been brought to just **three major hospitals in Karachi** since January this year. Over the past 12 months, **Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC)** reported **16,000 cases**, **Indus Hospital** received **13,000 cases**, while **Civil Hospital Karachi** recorded **12,000 cases** of dog bites and suspected rabies exposure.

In addition, **22 people have lost their lives to rabies in Sindh this year**, highlighting the deadly consequences of delayed treatment and inadequate preventive measures.

Health experts have termed the situation extremely worrying, stressing the urgent need for **mass dog vaccination campaigns, effective control of stray dog populations, and improved availability of anti-rabies vaccines**. They have also urged the public to seek immediate medical treatment after dog bites, as rabies is almost always fatal if not treated in time.
