ANP expresses concern over rising insecurity, kidnappings, and targeted killings in Balochistan

QUETTA (Kuwait News Desk) — The provincial chapter of the Awami National Party (ANP) has expressed serious concern over the worsening law and order situation in Balochistan, citing growing incidents of insecurity, targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom, and actions against political leaders and workers.

In a detailed statement, the party’s provincial spokesperson said the security situation across the province continues to deteriorate, with particularly severe impacts being felt in Pashtun and بلوچ regions.

The ANP strongly condemned the targeted killing of noted intellectual and teacher Professor Hayat Ghamkhwar, the alleged abduction of Professor Sabir and his associates, and a reported raid by security forces on the residence of Mir Abdul Rauf Mengal, a senior leader of the Balochistan National Party (BNP).

The statement warned that the continuation of what it described as an outdated “war narrative” in Balochistan is producing increasingly dangerous consequences, with armed groups becoming more active in various districts and spreading fear among ordinary citizens.

According to the ANP, if the current situation persists, the province could be pushed toward conditions resembling civil conflict, potentially affecting peace and stability across the country.

The party also expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation on major highways, claiming that travelers, traders, and citizens are frequently facing armed robberies and life-threatening incidents.

It said the public is living in fear and uncertainty while official claims regarding improved security do not reflect realities on the ground.

The ANP leadership stated that the benefits enjoyed by a small number of influential individuals or privileged groups cannot be presented as overall progress for the province, as ordinary citizens continue to face insecurity, unemployment, lack of peace, and denial of constitutional rights.

The statement emphasized that protecting the lives and property of citizens is the state’s primary constitutional responsibility. It argued that worsening insecurity, targeted attacks on intellectuals and political workers, and unsafe highways cannot be addressed through official statements alone.

The party called on the government and state institutions to take immediate notice of the deteriorating law and order situation in Balochistan, dismantle armed groups, and ensure protection for political activists, teachers, intellectuals, and the general public.
