Balochistan Assembly Raises Serious Concerns Over Gas Loadshedding and Lack of Textbooks; Reports Sought from Departments

Quetta: Lawmakers in the Balochistan Assembly expressed strong concerns over gas loadshedding, non-availability of textbooks in educational institutions, and the establishment of liquor shops in Gwadar and Khuzdar during a heated session on public issues.
Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai directed relevant departments to submit detailed reports, including the Sui Southern Gas Company, Education Department, and Excise Department.
During the proceedings, MPA Shahida Rauf criticized the recently issued gas supply schedule, stating that it was unacceptable and not being properly implemented, causing severe difficulties for the public already facing electricity shortages. She demanded that officials from the Sui Southern Gas Company be summoned to the assembly.
Separately, MPA Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman Baloch raised concerns over law enforcement in the province, alleging administrative failures. He claimed that liquor shops in Gwadar were being operated by and serving Muslims, calling the situation alarming.
He also expressed serious concern over the education sector, stating that despite the new academic year beginning on March 1, textbooks have not been distributed to government schools. He questioned the delay in printing and distribution and asked whether students are expected to attend school without books.
MP Asghar Ali Tareen also criticized the gas company’s scheduling, saying it was prepared in Islamabad without considering the ground realities of Balochistan. He demanded that the General Manager of Sui Southern Gas Company be summoned to the House.
At the conclusion of the session, Speaker Abdul Khaliq Achakzai ordered all relevant departments to submit reports and directed officials to appear before the House for accountability.
