Drone Attack Causes Fire at UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Power Plant

ABU DHABI: A fire broke out at the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in Abu Dhabi following a drone attack, according to UAE authorities. No casualties have been reported, and officials confirmed that there was no impact on radiation levels or nuclear safety systems.

In a statement shared on social media, Abu Dhabi authorities said emergency teams responded to a fire that erupted in an electrical generator located in the outer protective perimeter of the nuclear facility in the Al Dhafra region.

The UAE’s Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) stated that the incident did not affect the plant’s main operational or safety systems, and all reactor units continue to function normally.

Authorities urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and avoid spreading rumors or unverified reports.

According to reports, drone attacks on the UAE have continued intermittently despite a ceasefire agreement reached between the United States and Iran on April 8. Iran had earlier claimed it was targeting American military bases and Israeli-linked interests in Gulf countries, with the UAE reportedly facing the highest number of attacks.

Last week, the UAE also accused Iran of launching missile and drone strikes on Fujairah Port, where three Indian nationals were reportedly injured and a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone.
