Pakistan, Iran Agree to Restore Rail Link, Travel to Iran and Turkey to Become Easier

Islamabad (Khabar Desk) — Pakistan and Iran have agreed to enhance rail connectivity and begin repair work on the Pakistan-Iran railway line, paving the way for improved regional travel and trade links, officials said.
The development came during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Railways and Iranian Ambassador Dr. Reza Amiri Moghaddam, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
Discussions focused on key railway routes including the Taftan–Zahedan line and the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul freight train project. Both sides emphasized the importance of improving infrastructure, security, and operational continuity along the Quetta–Taftan railway section.
The Federal Minister for Railways said Pakistan attaches great importance to its historical, cultural, and mutually respectful relations with Iran. He stressed that rehabilitation of the railway network is essential for boosting regional connectivity and economic cooperation.
The meeting also included discussions on the broader situation in the Middle East, with Pakistan reiterating its support for peace, dialogue, and diplomatic solutions to regional conflicts.
The Iranian ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s positive role in promoting peace and stability in the region, calling its diplomatic efforts commendable.
Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan’s military leadership, including efforts to reduce tensions and promote peace, while also enhancing bilateral collaboration in multiple sectors.
Officials noted that improved rail connectivity could make travel between Pakistan, Iran, and Turkey easier in the future, particularly through the proposed transnational freight and passenger routes.
