Missile and Drone Attacks Hit UAE, Fire Erupts at Fujairah Oil Facility

Islamabad: A major fire broke out at a key petroleum facility in Fujairah following reported drone and missile attacks, raising security concerns across the United Arab Emirates.
According to reports cited by Al Jazeera, the blaze erupted at an industrial oil site after what local authorities described as a suspected drone strike. Emergency and rescue teams rushed to the scene, while security across the area was placed on high alert.
The Fujairah Media Office confirmed the incident, stating that firefighting operations were underway to contain the flames. Authorities have tightened security measures as efforts continue to control the situation.
Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Defense claimed that three out of four missiles allegedly launched from Iran were intercepted by air defense systems, while one fell into the sea. However, there has been no official confirmation or denial from Iran regarding these claims.
In response to the escalating situation, the UAE temporarily closed its airspace to ensure the safety of air operations and prevent any potential risks.
The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority also issued a missile alert, stating that air defense systems were actively responding to potential threats. Loud explosions reported in various areas were attributed to the interception of ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions, with investigations underway to determine whether the reported attacks and the fire are directly linked.
Separately, a South Korean cargo company reported a fire aboard one of its vessels near the Strait of Hormuz, approximately 70 kilometers northwest of Sharjah. The cause of that fire remains unknown.
Experts warn that Fujairah—located near the Strait of Hormuz and a critical hub for global oil transit—could see disruptions that may impact international energy supplies if such incidents continue.
