Restoration of Trade Unions and Student Bodies Key to Real Democracy, Says National Party Leadership in Quetta

Quetta: A Labour Day event organized by the National Party was held at the Quetta Press Club, where leaders, trade union representatives, and party members gathered in large numbers to mark International Labour Day.
The event was addressed by Central Secretary General Mir Kabir Ahmed Muhammad Shahi, Provincial President Aslam Baloch, and Members of the Provincial Assembly Rahmat Saleh Baloch, Phalain Baloch, Kulsoom Niaz Baloch, and others.
Speakers said May 1 represents solidarity with the martyrs of Chicago and a commitment to organized struggle against exploitation. They described the National Party as a middle-class political force that considers the restoration of student unions and trade unions essential for genuine democracy.
The leaders strongly criticized government economic policies, terming privatization and failure to provide “DRA” allowances as anti-employee measures. They also claimed that the current assembly was the product of “Form 47,” reflecting disputed electoral legitimacy.
They further stated that the closure of border trade and alleged control of sea resources by “trawler mafias” had severely impacted livelihoods, pushing labourers in Balochistan into extreme poverty.
During the gathering, strong condemnation was expressed over the alleged unlawful arrest of Babal Malik Baloch, senior vice chairman of the BSO-Pajjar, with demands raised for his immediate release.
The event concluded with the approval of multiple resolutions calling for the protection of workers’ rights and an end to enforced disappearances in the region.
