Punjab Flour Crisis Worsens as Supply Disruption Sparks Public Outcry

Islamabad (Khabar Daily) — The flour crisis in Punjab, including Lahore and other major cities, has intensified as the supply of government-subsidized wheat flour continues to be disrupted, creating severe shortages and increasing hardship for the public.
Citizens report growing difficulty in finding affordable flour, with low-income households particularly affected as daily necessities become harder to manage. In Lahore and other cities, even 10kg and 20kg flour bags have become scarce in the open market.
According to representatives of the Pakistan Flour Mills Association, the situation has worsened due to disruptions in wheat supply over the past one and a half months, which has significantly impacted flour production and destabilized the overall supply chain.
Grocers estimate that Lahore alone requires nearly 200,000 flour bags daily, a demand that is currently unmet due to supply constraints.
As a result of limited stock, consumers are being forced to purchase 15kg flour bags at inflated prices, placing additional pressure on household budgets.
Both the Grocers Association and the Flour Mills Association have expressed serious concern over the situation and urged the government to immediately restore wheat supply and stabilize the flour market to provide relief to the public.
Meanwhile, uncertainty in flour availability and pricing continues to grow, with citizens demanding urgent action to resolve the crisis.
