Islamabad High Court Summons PM Shehbaz Sharif Over PTA Tribunal Appointment Case

The Islamabad High Court has summoned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appear in person on May 18 in a case related to the non-appointment of a finance member in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) tribunal.

The order was issued by Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, who directed the Prime Minister to personally explain the delay in the appointment.

During the hearing, the judge remarked that the Prime Minister must appear in court on May 18 and clarify why the tribunal’s finance member has not been appointed.

An Assistant Attorney General informed the court that a retired judge had already been appointed to the tribunal. However, Justice Kayani expressed dissatisfaction, commenting critically on the frequent appointment of retired judges to tribunals and regulatory bodies.

The judge further observed that if the finance member is not appointed by May 18, the Prime Minister must appear and explain the reasons for the delay.

The court’s remarks highlighted concerns over delays in institutional appointments and the functioning of regulatory tribunals.
