Sher Afzal Marwat to Challenge Election of Sohail Afridi as Chief Minister

ISLAMABAD: Member of the National Assembly Sher Afzal Marwat has announced that he will challenge the election of Suhail Afridi as Chief Minister, citing concerns over governance and party decisions.
In a statement, Marwat criticized the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming that poor governance and administrative failures have become widely known. He alleged irregularities in the health sector, including the procurement and sale of medicines at questionable prices.
He said that although Ali Amin Gandapur had advised him against taking such a step, he has now decided to proceed with challenging the election.
Marwat also referred to past Supreme Court rulings, stating that a convicted individual cannot issue directives from prison. He alleged that party decisions, including nominations, were influenced from outside formal legal channels.
The lawmaker added that he would contest the nomination in court and expressed hope that Suhail Afridi would be removed from the position. He emphasized that his move is not based on personal animosity but on what he described as a flawed decision that has weakened the party.
He further warned that the current leadership could damage the party’s unity if changes are not made, suggesting that figures like Barrister Gohar Ali Khan and Ali Amin Gandapur should be given more authority to stabilize the party.
Marwat concluded that empowering key leaders could help restore party strength and improve its political standing in the near future.
