Transport Fares Increased in Lahore After Fuel Price Hike

LAHORE: Following a rise in petroleum product prices, transporters in Lahore have increased intercity fares by 3 to 4 percent after successful negotiations with the Regional Transport Authority (RTA).
According to officials, the revised fares were agreed upon during talks between the Secretary RTA and transporters, citing increased operational costs due to higher fuel prices.
Under the new fare structure, the ticket from Lahore to Multan has been increased from Rs1,760 to Rs1,810, while the fare to Okara has gone up from Rs800 to Rs850. Similarly, travel from Lahore to Dera Ghazi Khan now costs Rs2,050, up from Rs1,990, and the fare to Bahawalpur has been raised from Rs2,100 to Rs2,160.
Other major routes have also seen increases. The fare from Lahore to Sukkur has been revised from Rs6,450 to Rs6,710, while the fare to Hyderabad has increased from Rs9,270 to Rs9,640. Similarly, fares to Islamabad and Peshawar have been raised to Rs3,480 and Rs3,530 respectively.
Transporters say the increase is necessary to cope with rising fuel costs, while passengers have expressed concern over the growing burden of travel expenses.
