Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon Slams Mustafa Kamal’s Call to Bring Karachi Under Federal Control

**Karachi:** Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon strongly criticized statements calling for Karachi to be brought under federal control, saying such proposals come from those responsible for past incidents of violence in the city.

Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Memon said, “These calls to transfer Karachi to federal control are being made by people who, in the past, set people on fire over extortion schemes. Are we not risking repeating such incidents?”

He specifically addressed Mustafa Kamal’s recent press conference, referring to the 12 May incident at Baldia Factory, where many lives were lost due to a fire. Memon said, “You cannot speak of Karachi without acknowledging the pain of the victims’ families. According to the JIT report, after Ashura, the fire at Bolton Market disrupted many livelihoods. The families of the victims are still searching for justice.”

Memon also played clips of Kamal’s past statements about his former party leader and the treatment of coalition leaders during his tenure as Karachi mayor, highlighting inconsistencies in his claims.

The minister emphasized that while he has a strong rebuttal to Kamal’s statements, Sindh’s government prefers to stand with the victims’ families rather than engage in political rhetoric. He added, “This person claims to be the rightful leader of Karachi and serves as Federal Minister of Health. Has he even visited the affected sites or contacted anyone about these tragedies? The truth about his party’s actions is evident to all.”

Sharjeel Memon’s remarks come amid renewed debates over the governance of Karachi and calls by some political figures to place the city under federal administration.
