Kuwait Court Sentences 17 to 3 Years Over Sectarian Incitement and National Security Charges

KUWAIT CITY: A criminal court in Kuwait has sentenced 17 defendants to three years in prison each over charges related to sectarian incitement, spreading false information, and actions deemed harmful to national security.
According to a report published by Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Qabas, the State Security Criminal Court also handed a separate 10-year prison sentence to one of the main accused in two related cases.
The verdicts were announced during a public hearing held under strict security arrangements, with family members of the accused present in an orderly manner.
The court also reviewed a broader case involving 109 defendants. However, it refrained from issuing convictions against all of them and acquitted nine individuals due to insufficient evidence.
Authorities stated that all those charged were accused of promoting sectarian tensions, disseminating fake news, and engaging in activities against the security of the state.
The case is seen as part of Kuwait’s broader efforts to curb actions that threaten internal stability and national unity.
