Iran Says Key Differences With US Persist, Signals Possibility of Initial Deal

Tehran: A senior Iranian official has said that significant differences remain between Iran and United States, particularly on nuclear issues and the need for serious negotiations.

According to the official, both sides still need to bridge gaps related to Iran’s nuclear program and broader diplomatic engagement. However, the official indicated that there is a possibility of reaching an initial agreement in the coming days, potentially alongside an extension of the current ceasefire.

The proposed preliminary deal, the official noted, could create space for further talks on lifting sanctions and securing compensation for war-related damages.

The official added that if Iran’s demands are met, Tehran would be willing to reassure the international community about the peaceful nature of its nuclear activities. However, reopening the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz would remain conditional on the implementation of ceasefire terms between Iran and the United States.

It is worth noting that following the ceasefire in Lebanon, Iran had announced the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on social media that all commercial shipping would be allowed to pass through the strait for the duration of the ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Iranian military officials clarified that military vessels would not be permitted to transit through the waterway.
