Punjab Govt Approves Electric Buses for 10 Districts

Islamabad: The government of Punjab has approved the provision of new electric buses in 10 districts as part of efforts to modernize public transport and promote eco-friendly mobility.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, where progress on mass transit projects in Gujranwala and Faisalabad was also reviewed.

During the meeting, the chief minister directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for operating 1,500 electric buses at the tehsil level across the province.

According to a briefing, electric buses will be introduced in Attock, Bhakkar, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Layyah, Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Mandi Bahauddin, and Okara.

Officials also informed the meeting that dedicated depots for electric buses will be established in each division. As part of the rollout plan, 100 buses are expected to arrive in Punjab this month, followed by 350 more by mid-May and an additional 264 by the end of June.

The initiative is aimed at improving public transport infrastructure while reducing environmental pollution in the province.
